She's been recognized at the local level with public service awards, at the state level as Black Excellence on the Hill honoree, and at the national level as a U.S. Presidential Scholar. Above all, Birukti considers herself a novelist. She’s written since her early teens, has completed eleven novels, and is now represented by Andrea Brown Literary Agency. She’s concerned with publishing’s lack of diversity, which she works to mitigate as a book blogger, focusing her content on promoting BIPOC authors. She was among the four awardees for the 2023 Visiting Committee Prize for Undergraduate Book Collecting. At Cambridge, Birukti will pursue a MSt in Creative Writing, and work on her dissertation novel set in Ethiopia's ancient kingdom of Axum.
