Aaron Abai

aaron abaiAaron Abai, from Littleton, Colorado, concentrated in Molecular and Cellular Biology with a secondary in African-American Studies and a language citation in Amharic. Aaron graduated magna cum laude and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa during his junior year. Aaron aspires to bridge his interests in global health, biomedical research, and social justice. For his senior thesis, supervised by Dr. Seth Bloom in the Kwon Lab, Aaron researched the female genital tract microbiome in the context of HIV acquisition risk. His research has been supported by the Herchel Smith Fellowship and the Microbial Sciences Initiative and has been published in Nature Microbiology.  Aaron has performed HIV research in Durban, South Africa and interned for Partners in Health (PIH) as a Presidential Public Service Fellow. At Harvard, Aaron interned at the Harvard Foundation for Intercultural Race Relations, where he received the Insignia Award for his contributions to improving intercultural relations. Aaron served as the President of the Harvard Society of Black Scientists and Engineers, the founder of the STEM and Social Engagement Committee, and a teaching assistant for organic chemistry.  Outside of the classroom and laboratory, Aaron enjoys traditional Ethiopian dance, photography, and long-distance running. At Cambridge, Aaron will pursue an MPhil in the History and Philosophy of Science and Medicine as the Lt. Charles H. Fiske III Scholar at Trinity College.
